2 S ep 2 00 9 About the sign ambiguity in the evaluation of Grand Canonical

About the sign ambiguity in the evaluation of Grand Canonical traces for quasi-particle statistical density operators. Abstract A simple and general prescription for evaluating unambiguously the sign of the grand-canonical trace of quasi-particle statistical density operators (the so-called sign ambiguity in taking the square root of determinants) is given. Sign ambiguities of this kind appear ...

A sub-determinant approach for pseudo-orbit expansions of spectral determinants

We study implications of unitarity for pseudo-orbit expansions of the spectral determinants of quantum maps and quantum graphs. In particular, we advocate to group pseudo-orbits into sub-determinants. We show explicitly that the cancellation of long orbits is elegantly described on this level and that unitarity can be built in using a simple sub-determinant identity which has a non-trivial inte...

Non-commutative extensions of classical determinantal identities

We present several non-commutative extensions of MacMahon Master Theorem and Sylvester’s Identity. The proofs are combinatorial and new even in the classical (commutative) cases. Résumé. Nous présentons plusieurs extensions noncommutatives du Master théorème de MacMahon et de l’identité de Sylvester. Même dans les cas classiques (commutatifs), les démonstrations sont nouvelles et de nature comb...

Schur ' s Determinants and Partition

Garrett, Ismail, and Stanton gave a general formula that contains the Rogers{ Ramanujan identities as special cases. The theory of associated orthogonal polynomials is then used to explain determinants that Schur introduced in 1917 and show that the Rogers{Ramanujan identities imply the Garrett, Ismail, and Stanton seemingly more general formula. Using a result of Slater a continued fraction is...

Quantum Ar Q-System Solutions as q-Multinomial Series

We derive explicit expressions for the generating series of the fundamental solutions of the Ar quantum Q-system of Di Francesco and Kedem [Non-commutative integrability, paths and quasi-determinants, Adv. in Math. 228(1) (2011) 97–152], expressed in terms of any admissible initial data. These involve products of quantum multinomial coefficients, coded by the initial data structure.
